Scientists have discovered a strong connection between good dental health and good overall health in general, especially with regard to the prevention of pneumonia. A major study which was recently conducted found that patients who made no visits whatsoever to a dentist had an 86% increase in their chance of development of pneumonia than those who made two visits each year.

The oral health connection

The connection between good oral health and pneumonia prevention seems to be tied to lower levels of bacteria found in the mouth. There are a number of harmful bacteria which can be present in the mouth at any given time, and if left unchecked, they can trigger all kinds of health issues, including pneumonia.

Your Conway dental team of Dr. Mulandi therefore encourages you to take steps to minimize the presence of harmful oral bacteria. This can be done by brushing your teeth after meals, by rinsing with a good mouthwash, and by scheduling necessary appointments with your Eastern Slope dental care specialists, who will remove plaque and identify any oral health issues. It’s up to you to do your part, and your Conway, NH dentists will help you to prevent the spread of harmful oral bacteria.
