What are Crowns?
Crowns are used to restore your smile after some of your natural teeth have become broken, cracked, or deeply decayed due to trauma or disease. Dr. Mulandi and our Eastern Slope Dental team always evaluate all options for restoring your smile if you’ve experienced tooth loss or breakage, and in cases where a broken tooth can’t be saved with a filling, we typically recommend installing a crown.
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, most commonly gold, strong ceramic, or porcelain. Some crown installations are made out of porcelain fused over a gold substrate, a combination which appears natural and beautiful, but is also strong and resilient. Crowns completely cover your broken tooth from the gum, which results in a functional tooth that blend in with your other healthy, natural teeth. Crowns, also occasionally referred to as “caps,” are extremely strong, and will restore your self-confidence about your smile and bite. There are many reasons that our patients come in needing a crown, including:
- Teeth damaged or broken by trauma
- Missing partial teeth with intact roots
- Tooth protection following root canal
- Building a stronger foundation for a dental bridge
- Covering badly stained, cracked, or misshapen teeth
We use state of the art German technology of scanning using 3 Shape Trios Scanner for patient comfort and precision of crown fit with zero to minimal adjustment of crowns on delivery. We use the latest in material science research that combine the strength of biocompatible metals with esthetic ceramics in the form of zirconia crowns.
When you come in for your appointment, Dr. Mulandi will create a mold of your tooth and record the color of your other natural teeth, then send that information to our lab where a customized crown will be fabricated especially for you. As soon as your crown is ready, our team will call you to schedule your installation appointment. Dr. Mulandi will prepare the surface of your tooth by gently abrading the enamel, then use a specialized bonding agent to attach the crown. This process is quick and easy, with minimal discomfort. To ensure that your crown lasts a long time, our team will go over instructions to clean and maintain your new crown.
Call our team at Eastern Slope Dental today to schedule a consultation if you have broken or missing teeth, and our team will be happy to go over your options for restoring a bright, healthy smile.
